7 Ways to Improve & Learn in 2019

I just had the pleasure of watching a really interesting talk by Susan Colantuono at TEDxBeaconStreet – Career Advice you Probably Didn’t Get (def worth the 13mins) and had an ah ha moment. Her insights are logical, it makes sense, so why am I only hearing this now?

It’s never too late to learn something new and thanks to Deakin University’s career advice newsletter, I came across the above mentioned TedX Talk. Which got me thinking, there are so many ways for people to improve their knowledge, their skills and their understanding of the world and the best part, it doesn’t have to cost thousands of dollars through formal education such as a degree.

Here are my top cheap/ish (or free) ways to learn and improve in 2019:

Lynda.com / Linkedin Learning

My go to! Lynda.com is an amazing resource that you should take advantage of in 2019. It’s a paid service through Lynda.com or Linkedin Learning if you have the premium service.

I’m not a massive fan of audio books, my attention wanes unless I’m sitting there focussing on what’s been said. But, it’s great for those car trips into work or to the shops. Again, it’s a paid service, but they often have great promotions if you’ve never had an account and you can stop the account at any time. Here are 2 free books to get you started: audible.com.au/book_dep

FREE FREE FREE and amazing! If you haven’t heard of Tex Talks, you don’t know what you’ve been missing. Get onto this now!

Join a Library

Depending on the type of library, this could be free or cheap. But, library’s offer more than just books. Often they will offer programs, eresources (ebooks, newspapers etc), advice, kids activities and more. Check out your local library and see what is on offer.

FREE as well! You can listen to them through Spotify, iTunes and I’m sure google store will have an option as well. There are so many categories you can listen to, I tend to go through the business podcasts. However, my absolutely favourite podcast is Leading Beings (formally The Good Work Revolution) with Kate McCready. I HIGHLY recommend checking it out.

Meet Ups

Recently I had the pleasure of attending a valuable FREE meet up with a Coaching Psychologist Michelle Taylor about setting your business goals for 2019. It was an awesome event, I met some cool people and got a lot out of it. Meet Ups are a great way to meet new people with similar interests and a great way to learn. https://www.meetup.com/

Mentors & coaches

This is the one that I’ve always gotten a bit stuck on, how or where to find a mentor or coach. This is going to be different for everyone, but here are a few options that I have found:

Do you have any other suggestions on ways to learn and grow in 2019? I’d love to hear them! Please comment below.
